Coach Man of the Match and Parents' Man of the Match — unanimous, because he made so many proper saves in a 7-2 defeat. Played three quarters in goal and the last ten minutes on the pitch, where he was really good as well. Parents applauded and the opposition coach also called him the Man of the Match. Held at 8.5 only because we conceded seven; he was as good as he could be. A shame he doesn't want to stay as goalkeeper.
Good game, excellent decision making with zero hesitation. Played very well outfield too. Man of the Match and Parents' Player of the Match.

Unavailable for the match (couldn't make it). With no recognised goalkeeper the team lost 0-5 — CJ, Louie and Verity each had to take a spell in goal. Not played, so no rating.
11 Oct 2026Match
Played the full 40 minutes — in goal until the last 5 minutes, when he swapped with CJ and played outfield. Made a lot of saves and did well; without him we could have lost by a lot more.
Did what he could in goal but left far too many shots that only just missed — Matthew doesn't think he was 100% sure they were missing. Lack of movement compared to the last few weeks.

Absolutely amazing in goal against very strong opposition — at least three or four proper saves in a game where we were under pressure for long spells, a big part of why we won 2-1. Played the full 40 minutes and set up CJ's goal on 35'. Parents' Player of the Match.
Played the full game in goal and was happy to do it. Had an amazing game and made some great decisions — great to see him come off his line and out of the box to make clearances and tackles. 100% positive attitude.

On time — one of only three. Joined the defending group in the second round.
27 Sep 2026Match
A few good saves in goal but conceded a lot — an average game, and a bit of an average attitude too, never quite sure what he wants. Had to come off with 10 minutes left after a finger complaint and couldn't move outfield either, since he didn't have his boots or shin pads with him — CJ went in goal instead.
Had more work to do today than last week, played well — good to see him coming off his line and attacking the ball when the defenders made mistakes. Hurt his finger but didn't say how, possibly because he wanted to come out of goal. Disappointing that he forgot his boots and shin pads, but always a great attitude at matches.
22 Sep 2026Training
Trained outfield the entire session with no time in goal, while the other four (Arthur, Isaac, Louie) trained separately. As outgoing Captain (holding the armband since 6 Sep), chose CJ as the next Captain Armband holder — the first peer-to-peer handover under the new system — citing CJ's all-round example: scoring, passing and defending. Separately, his mum raised that she wasn't happy he played the entire Sunday match in goal — worth discussing with Matthew, since he's genuinely our best keeper and we want him in goal as much as possible, but with the squad now at 8 and 3 subs everyone's minutes (goal time included) are going to come down anyway.
20 Sep 2026Match
First win of the season, 7-1 vs Howden Clough Junior U9 Tigers (Geoffrey refereeing rather than coaching). Played the full 40 minutes but had very little to do with the team so dominant defensively — dealt cleanly with the few moments he did face.
Played the full 40 minutes in goal and didn't have much to do, but did what came his way very well, including one excellent decision to come 10 yards out of his box for a clean clearance. Picked up a knock to his foot that eased off quickly.

Goalkeeper training today, one on one with Geoffrey alongside CJ. Needs a lot more repetition to build real reflexes — right now he thinks too much about a save and that hesitation is when the mistakes come in. Looks noticeably better when he reacts on instinct rather than stopping to decide. Same technical picture as CJ — needs regular reps, not a one-off session.

Not inspired in goal today, went off again after 10 minutes - not sure he was actually injured, more like he wanted to go outfield. Attitude wasn't as good as previously seen, was giving up, negative, which isn't his usual spirit. Played 35 minutes.
Again made some excellent saves as last week. Came off with wrist pain but went back on once we realised the velcro was too tight. Played outfield fairly well - work on technical skills.

Did well in his first-ever goalkeeper training session, alongside CJ. Outfield, seemed a little distracted at times but enjoyed the session — good passing and movement forwards and backwards, though still needs more stamina work. Had to be told twice to stop slide tackling in training; both were reckless challenges that could cause injury and aren't necessary at this level.
6 Sep 2026Match
First competitive match - played 30 of the 40 minutes in goal (moved outfield for the closing spell) and was excellent throughout. Real composure and shot-stopping quality for a first-ever league game, recognised as very good by the opposition coach. One of our standout performers on the day despite the result.
Excellent in goal for his first-ever competitive game, clearly the stronger fit there over outfield for now, though he gave full effort when moved forward.

Excellent in goal today, unbeaten in the penalty shootout, but showed some doubt and reluctance about going in goal before coming round to wanting to do it — worth keeping an eye on. During the outfield drill work was cheerful as always but a bit dispersed and not fully committed. Right-footed with okay left-foot skills.

Session 3. Similar to CJ on attention/focus — stays way back on the field, doesn't move forward. But went in goal for our team's mini-games and had a brilliant game, excellent shot-stopping. Mentioned some doubt about playing keeper, but he could be a real difference-maker there — worth encouraging him to commit to the position. Needs to keep developing game vision and communication with the rest of the team, but a very good first game in goal.

Session 2 (4-zone possession game). Star of the day. Excellent movement and positioning back and forth, great vision, some brilliant passes to Daire into space — not so much in tight areas but very good over crossing range and distance. Scored and set up a goal, worked really well with Daire. Strength and weakness both: tries to tackle every time, needs to learn to defend standing up rather than diving in. Very impressive session.

First session. Named our #1 goalkeeper (CJ backup) and keen to play there, as his dad was a goalkeeper. When he had a go outfield he camped high up near the opposition goal (no offside at U9, but that's the picture), so keeper looks the right fit. New to club football. Engaged and enthusiastic.
